A progressive economic think tank has circulated a 182-page proposal urging congressional Democrats to use their oversight powers to investigate President Donald Trump’s finances and a range of major companies, according to a copy obtained by Fox News Digital.
The document, produced by the Groundwork Collaborative, was developed with input from former advisers to President Joe Biden and Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. It recommends that committees use hearings, subpoenas, and document requests but is a set of recommendations, not an official plan from Democratic leaders.
Companies and executives named
The proposal names Tesla, Apple, Amazon, OpenAI, Meta, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle, along with Palantir’s Alex Karp and Coinbase’s Brian Armstrong. It also points to Trump Media & Technology Group and World Liberty Financial, and urges scrutiny of major donors to Trump’s campaigns, inaugural committee, and the $250 million White House ballroom project.
Bharat Ramamurti, a former deputy director of the National Economic Council who consulted on the document, said its purpose is economic accountability. “Democratic candidates made the point that corporations have been doing very well while typical families get squeezed by higher prices,” he said. “This oversight agenda is about understanding what these corporations are doing and how policymakers should respond.”
Policy areas
- AI and health care: The document calls for limits on workplace surveillance and algorithmic pricing and recommends investigating the Trump administration’s Medicare WISeR model, an AI tool used to review prior authorization requests for outpatient procedures.
- Housing: It encourages probes of corporate landlords, institutional investors, and algorithmic rent-setting software.
- Taxes: It proposes renewed inquiries into Trump’s tax arrangements, including past IRS audits tied to his Chicago tower.
Reaction on Capitol Hill
Reaction has been mixed. Sources in Democratic committee offices, speaking, said donor oversight is a priority but described the document as one of many unsolicited proposals sent to House and Senate leadership.
