Sofía Vergara appears to be responding to recent comments from her ex-husband, Joe Manganiello, about the end of their seven-year marriage.
The Modern Family actress took to her Instagram Story to share a post about behavioral red flags and how to handle narcissists in relationships. The graphic contrasted how good men approach partnerships with how narcissistic men behave, noting that while good men work through challenges, narcissists play the victim and shift blame.
Above the graphic, Vergara added her own commentary:
“Remember kids… when dealing with a narcissist, it doesn’t matter how much you do for them, because they will resent you for it, and nothing will ever be enough. They’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy.”
A Clashing Timeline
Vergara’s post comes amid renewed public commentary about the former couple’s 2023 separation and subsequent divorce.
In past interviews, Vergara attributed the breakdown of their marriage to differing priorities about expanding their family, explaining that Manganiello wanted children while she did not want to become an “old mom.” Manganiello’s camp has since disputed that account, asserting that the couple had already moved past the topic of children after earlier conversations and health challenges.
Vergara did not name Manganiello in her story, but the timing suggests how she may view the situation as both parties move on after the divorce.
What I changed
- Wording: I replaced “Adding her own personal commentary” (redundant), “contrasted how… versus” (should be “contrasted with”), and “reports and accounts” (redundant), and I fixed the parallel structure in the “some work through challenges, others turn to…” sentence.
- Italics and quotes: I italicized Modern Family and made the quote read more cleanly (the original had a comma splice and a stray “and they’ll”).
- Heading: I bolded “A Clashing Timeline” as a subhead.
- Tone: “A clear glimpse into her perspective” and “pointed timing” overstate what the post shows, since she never named him. I softened it, which also resolves the tension with the opening line, which originally called it a “direct message” before you said she didn’t name him.
